Welcome and Introduction

Dear all,

Welcome to ENGL300-1 and ENGL300-2, our ultimate grammar classes!!!
This is your common class blog (yes, for BOTH sections!) where we post our chats in lieu of classroom discussion.

For your in-class activity on Friday, January 21st, please post a short COMMENT to this thread, introducing yourself to the class. You can talk about your major, your hobbies, your jobs, your families, your ideas of what we could do in a stand-alone grammar class, etc. -- whatever you want us to know about you (100-250 words). Remember that your instructor is grading content AND GRAMMAR/SPELLING of all your blogs, so please don't send your blog posts from a cell phone, all written in lower case ;-)

Here is a short introduction from me:

Hi grammarians,

I'm a fourth-year lecturer at SIUC and have taught ENGL101, 102, 290, 300, and 485a so far. I am German, and my first M.A. is in translation. I have studied in St. Petersburg, Russia (1993); Dijon, France (1995); and here at SIU (1997). My second M.A. is a Master of Arts in Teaching from SIU (2007), and I am a certified IL high school teacher for German, French, and English. However, I prefer to teach the older generation!! Guess why ;-) I have a Ph.D. in English (2003) and am currently getting one in Curriculum & Instruction; so yeah, I'm a student, too ;-)
You never stop learning. My hobbies are playing the piano, travels, photography, reptile breeding (http://www.lzrdgrl.com/), and of course: GRAMMAR! For those of you who are education majors, you are going to see me again in "Teaching Writing to High School Students" (ENGL485a), and I am also grading your Gateways and supervising your Capstone exams. I'm excited to get to know you all. Have fun in our grammar class!

  9. Hey classmates,

I am Adrian Garcia, I am currently a sophomore studying in Journalism and specializing in Advertising with a minor in Sociology. To be honest, I never intended to take this class but I had to based upon my major. I really hate grammar and I always sucked at it. Hopefully, this course can somewhat brush up my skills and improve it, all at the same time. Some of the things I like to do is play basketball, baseball and just hangout with friends.
